Whether you want to film your own video testimonials from valued clients or a promotion piece for your business, here we shall discuss the equipment that you will find useful when filming.
If going alone, camera wise, it can simply just be a Flip Cam or even a mobile phone; the latest Smartphone’s often have an HD video camera built in, so filming video testimonials or production demonstrations is ideal for this and can be done with ease.
Invest a bit of money and buy a microphone, either a handheld or a lapel mic. You may be able to film in high definition, but if the audio is poor, that’s half the experience taken away. A good tip is, if you are filming on a Smartphone, plug your hands free in and use it as a mic, rather than relying on the inbuilt mic.
Look into purchasing a tripod, there’s nothing worse than having the person or item you’re filming swaying up and down or side to side, even if newer cameras come with image stability, nothing replaces having the camera on a flat surface. It doesn’t have to cost the earth, a small, desk mounted tripod can be purchased quite cheaply.
Finally, when it comes to editing your film, try to shoot as much as you can initially without the need for too much editing afterwards. iOS for the iPhone has a built in video editor, which is incredibly easy to use. If you prefer to edit on a computer, then using something like Windows Movie Maker from the Essentials Pack is perfectly acceptable. Just don’t go over the top with the transitions or special effects!
These are just a few pointers into what equipment you may require when filming your first business video. Oh and don’t let the camera put you off, it is only a machine after all! :)
